2020 Annual Conference

As we continue to navigate through these very uncertain times, it has become more apparent that we are not going to get back to normal for at least the next few months as the state tries to stabilize the pandemic. We believed that Arizona would have been at phase 2 by now, instead, we are still at phase 1 for the unforeseeable future. For a conference like ours to move forward in person, we would need Arizona to be at phase 3. In addition, we have been hearing from our members across that state that districts have restricted travel for their students and staff along with companies putting the same restrictions on travel.

With all of the factors we are facing as a state and the challenges that districts will be facing over the next few months opening their schools, the AASBO Board has decided to cancel the Annual Conference for 2020. This decision was very, very tough, and not taken lightly. The professional development, networking opportunities, charity events, and positive environment for our members and vendors all contributed to making this conference one of the most popular and well-attended conferences in the state.

With this in mind, the Board has decided to move the in-person conference into a virtual conference. Many associations including some state ASBO associations and companies have moved to this format successfully and have provided a great experience for their members. With the goal to create the format of this virtual conference as close to the in-person conference as possible, there are numerous details that will need to be worked out to make this an exceptional conference. We will keep you informed with each step as we walk down this road together. Our tentative time frame will be the last week of October.

As a board, much thought was put into acknowledging that our vendors contribute so much to our organization and conference. As part of this virtual conference, we are looking into ways to showcase our vendors. We will be researching a virtual exhibit hall, session sponsorships as well as sending attendees a contact list of vendors who had previously committed to their booth space for the in-person conference.

Since we understand that virtual conferences cannot replace the networking and showcase abilities as an in-person conference we are looking at a way to have an in-person networking event in January in conjunction with the Vendor/Buyer & Winter Conferences. This would include adding an exhibit hall to the Vendor/Buyer & Winter Conference and provide booth times for exhibitors during both days.

More information on the virtual conference regarding vendor participation and more information on your current booth registration options with AASBO will be sent out.

We thank you all for your continued support and dedication to our association. It would be impossible to do this without you and together, I know we will make it through these tough times.
